Adult
Department Information
Introduction to Our Department
In the Adult Services department you'll find
a growing collection of titles we hope will meet the entertainment,
recreational, educational and cultural needs of adults in the Oxford
area. Our librarians are selecting hundreds of titles each month
in various formats to best meet the needs of our adult patrons,
whether they're finishing up high school, fixing up their first
home, parenting teenagers or planning retirement. In addition to
our professional training in book selection and collection development,
we find patron input to be an important part of building a good
collection. While we cannot hope to own every book of interest
to every patron, we welcome suggestions and seriously consider
any we receive.

New Titles
If you would like to browse our new arrivals,
we have a special "New Book" row immediately to the left
as you enter the department. You will find a selection of our new
fiction and non-fiction books as well as educational videos recently
added to our collection. Our new audio books and entertainment
videos can be found in the lobby of the library, directly across
from the circulation desk. Our popular audio collection includes
new fiction and non-fiction releases in abridged and unabridged
cassettes and compact discs. We also have a good collection of
some old standards and classic titles from which to choose.

Magazines and Newspapers
A favorite spot for many regular patrons is the
periodical and newspaper area flanking our fantastic fieldstone
fireplace. Our collection of over one hundred fifty popular magazines
and newspapers are within easy reach of the comfortable lounge
chairs and expanse of windows looking out on a passive park. Our
patrons find it a quiet and restful area in which to spend a few
minutes or a whole afternoon.

Quiet Study Areas
Another popular feature of our Adult Services
area is the selection of individual study carrels located throughout
the department. Patrons can spend the day using our resources for
projects or preparing for exams in uninterrupted peace. We also
have two quiet study rooms which are available for use (non-profit
only). Quiet Study Room use is on a first-come, first-served basis
and is limited to one or two people engaged in quiet study.

Electronic Resources
The Technology Room is located directly behind the Fiction shelves. Patrons have access to Internet browsing tools, a vast collection of electronic databases including Ancestry.com, Prices4Antiques, and Auto Repair Reference Center, as well as Microsoft Office Applications such as Word and Excel. Your Oxford Public Library card is needed to log on as well as print documents or pages.
